ONE WORD: I will be attempting to write one word that will explain different categories of Transgender studies….
What is transgendered studies?…..Phenomenal!
Transgender studies do not only have to do with the human but it encompasses the understanding of gender variance in the ecological spectrum as a whole…very cool.
Historical transgender studies…Sexology
Transgender individuals have been historically significant through our medical history. They have been pathologized. Not only through naming (Trans-sexual vs. Transgender), but also in a psychological way.
Medicalization of transbodies….Christine Jorgensen
Christine Jorgensen is particularly significant when talking about this category. She has changed the view of transgendered individuals in the media and shifted the view of how trans people were understood as a whole.
Transgender and feminist thought….Turbulence
An interesting part of this category that stood out to me is Janice Raymond’s attack towards trans females. She passionately believes that trans women are just men trying to colonize women’s spaces.
Politics and transness….Power
Its intriguing how administrative and bio-political power manages people, especially genders, at the level of paperwork.
These are just a few interesting topics we learned about in our Transgendered studies class….but there are so many more. I can state topics and my opinion…but I will go on forever…and this is just a blog =]
